UPE is a European parallel-flange channel defined by EN 10365 (formerly DIN 1026-2). It is the modern successor of the UPN series — parallel flanges simplify bolted connections (no tapered washers needed) and give a more efficient section at equal depth.
UPE is used for purlins, side rails, stair stringers, frames, and often in back-to-back pairs forming a symmetric built-up section. Design must account for the offset centroid (ey) and the shear centre lying outside the web — a single channel in bending tends to twist.
