Work out the utilisation of L 50×50/4 for your design forces

Enter the design loads and the section is checked for bending, shear and compression with flexural buckling.

Yield strength is taken from the product standard for the governing thickness, so above 16 mm it is lower than the nominal grade. Simplified checks per EN 1993-1-1, without M+N+V interaction, without lateral-torsional buckling and without web shear buckling. Verify with a full design.

For angles the bending values refer to the axes parallel to the legs, which are not principal axes. A moment about one of them also bends the section about the other, so bending has to be resolved into the principal axes u and v and checked biaxially. Buckling already uses the weaker principal axis v.
